Joachim, also known as Joe, started his career as a chef 10 years ago. Since then, he has worked in a range of restaurants, including a prestigious Michelin star establishment. His love of food and determination to provide outstanding hospitality lead him to direct a successful business offering high-end catering for weddings, corporate functions, festivals and events. We were thrilled when he accepted the job with us in St Anton this winter.

Joe is delighted to be a part of the training team this summer and will be leading our Chalet Host cookery courses on 23 & 30 June. The course covers all aspects of life as a chalet host, in a real chalet environment.

The course is delivered in the Alpine resort of Morzine. Based in one of our luxury chalets (with a hot tub!) it provides the perfect learning environment; you’ll be cooking in a chalet kitchen, at altitude, and with similar hours to that expected of you in a chalet host role.

All participants of the course will be offered the opportunity to interview for a chalet host role with us for the 2018/19 winter season.

Alongside Joe, the course is delivered by experienced chalet hosts offering you their knowledge and guidance in a relaxed environment and with a maximum of 8 participants in any one session. It is designed to encourage you to interact, ask lots of questions and learn, not just about cooking but also life in general as a chalet host. 

£645 per person in a shared twin room

£745 for single occupancy of a double room

I think the hardest part of working a season is getting up in the morning. In my room, 4 different alarms went off at the same time, with my roommates all setting their own alarms. I get up every morning at 6.30am, giving myself enough time to look presentable and get to my chalet for 7.20am.

Being a chalet host teaches you to be the ultimate multi-tasker. Having to engage in friendly morning conversation with your guests, whilst having four different pans on the hob is done with ease just weeks into the season. 

Let’s not forgot about my chocolate mousse cake disaster. Just as I was putting my cake in the oven, the bottom of the cake tin unclipped and my deep cleaned kitchen was immediately covered in the mixture. I never knew a chocolate mousse cake would make me cry and so early on in the season… but it did!  Note to self – always check that the cake tin is securely fastened.

Season work demands lots of early shifts and long hours. Don’t be fooled by the glamorous images on instagram. There is definitely an even split between hard work and fun.  It takes a special type of person to go out partying until the early hours and then come in to the chalet and make breakfast at 8am with a smile on their face. You can’t be productive on a hangover, that’s just a fact.

My cooking has developed so much over the season. I am always learning new tricks to put together a delicious meal. The personal growth during this experience is continuous.

Life as a chalet host isn’t always easy but it is once in a lifetime experience. When I look up at the sky, the mountains and the snow I remember just how lucky I am to be here.

Perfect! We need chefs to work in our VIP CLUB Chalets in Morzine, Meribel and Val d’Isere. You’ll be responsible for your own menu so we’re looking for individuals with a passion for food and a lot of creative flair. You’ll work alongside a team of 2 or 3 hosts to deliver high quality, delicious food to our guests. We've also got a selection of roles available in our Austrian hotels, including Sous Chef positions, Kitchen Porters and Night Porters

We provide childcare in 10 of our ski resorts so we need qualified nannies to take care of our smallest VIP SKI guests. You’ll work with children from 6 months up to 12 years to make sure they have a fun filled, activity packed ski holiday. We’re looking for energetic and creative individuals with a good range of experience. Nannies work 5 ½ days a week so there’s plenty of time to learn to ski too!
