  • January Break Les Arcs

Bear Lodge a great place to stay, room was clean and warm, fab ski in ski out location, swimming pool perfect good size for lengths and a nice temperature. Didn't use the cinema room but it would've been a welcome addition when we used to do holidays with our children when they were younger. Breakfast was good, always a hot option as well as buffet style help yourself - dinners a bit more hit and miss, some very good and some not so, but always plenty of food and wine on offer. Special shout out to Rhu, Tilly and Tom in the restaurant who were super friendly and smiley despite long hours and tricky customers (not us obvs!). Also to Louis who went above and beyond when I wasn't feeling well and suggested a pot of ginger, lemon and honey tea might help (it did!) and to Ewan and Ash in the bar - the bar is a lovely room, and whoever makes the cakes for afternoon tea is a baker extraordinaire.

  • Couldn’t fault a thing; we had the best time

    Emma Beverland 29 Jan 2024

As soon as we arrived at Bear Lodge we were met by our host (Preston) who was amazing - even though we were early & presumed we’d have to wait to check in, the staff got us in immediately which was very much appreciated after travelling for a long time with our 3 year old and 1 year old. Preston and Sam were amazing in every way; they looked after us so well and even though it was pretty manic with 4couples & 5 children running around, they always did what they could to make all the adults and children happy - no easy feat! I was really impressed by how unfazed they were by our rather energetic 3 year old who loved running up to them/playing/“helping” them cook etc. It really took the pressure off me to have hosts that were so lovely to the kids. They also did their best to keep the kids happy with food (again, impossible with a very fussy 3 year old!) whilst also keeping the adults happy with delicious meals/catering for dietary requirements. And keeping the drinks/wine flowing! They were very good fun but also very professional and did an amazing job of looking after us & keeping the chalet clean and tidy etc. We also had other people help throughout the week - everyone who helped at the chalet was lovely. Alice in particular. As a not very keen skier(!) Bear lodge was the ideal location for me as it had a gym (no cardio equipment but great tv to stream hiit with weights etc) and a spa. The staff were very accommodating and turned things on that weren’t usually on until the skiers had returned! It’s also the perfect location for walking to cafes/restaurants and you can do a lot of walking around the place if you don’t want to ski! Obviously it goes without saying it’s also the perfect location for skiers! The other absolute stars of the show were the Nannies who run the kids club. We have never had a holiday where our 3 year old would happily go to a kids club so we were shocked that he was excited each day to go - our 1 year old gladly followed him. It was such a treat to have childcare on a holiday and I felt so reassured by all the amazing ladies who worked there. Our key worker, Jess, kept us updated with a what’s app group and photos of the kids playing happily. They also took them out on the snow to play and go in sledges etc. And they took them for afternoon tear in the lodge and one day to the cinema room which the kids all loved. We also had an evening where we got babysitters and went out for the evening - again, a real treat. Overall, I really couldn’t fault Bear Lodge / Chalet Luk. My other half (a keen skier) probably isn’t over the moon that I’m going to require a catered chalet with a great kids club & spa in the future! We’ll definitely have to look at more VIP ski options. Thanks to all the lovely staff who made our holiday!

  • A sunny week in Les Arcs

Bear Lodge 1950 is a superb chalet hotel. The look, decor, finish and facilities are excellent. It is as ski-in ski-out as possible just above the Marmottes and Bois de L’Ours chairs. The staff are friendly, welcoming and attentive. Our room was modern and comfortable. The meals were of a high standard. We were surprised how many school age children were staying and this limited access to the pool after skiing. There is a problem with the breakfast hot food service. It just takes too long. We were booked in for guiding both days, but missed it waiting 30 to 40 minutes for our hot dishes. Several of the dinners were very good - in particular the fish cookery and the duck. However some of the pastry and sponge cakes were uncooked.

  • Great Chalet in a good location

A ski/snowboard group of five chaps and we all enjoyed the week we had at the Alaska. The chalet is in a great location with easy access to the main lifts. The rooms are not massive, more medium sized but with good storage. The boot room is brilliant and everything was dry by morning. The chalet staff do a fabulous job of keeping the rooms clean and the evening meals they cooked were good too. Special mention to Hazel, Sophie and Adam (the fruit sculptor extraordinaire) who did a fantastic job of hosting us. Off the slopes there was always a cake / cakes of the day, tea and coffee. This was my second time at the Alaska and I would not hesitate to go again.

  • Another Great Holiday With VIP

    Elizabeth C 28 Jan 2024

Loved the chalet - Aspen House is in a great location only a few minutes walk to the piste. As always everything was very efficient from the pre-departure call to the delivery of our hire skis to the boot room. But what sets VIP apart is their staff - our chalet host Selina was delightful, nothing was too much trouble and the food she produced was always delicious.

From the moment we stepped off the bus to our departure 7 days later, Charlotte, our chalet hostess did everything to ensure our week was amazing. Her cooking skills were superb and with cooked breakfast, afternoon tea and a 3 course evening meal we had a wonderful experience. Add to that the ski in, ski out access, we are already looking at another week in 2025! Thank you Charlotte and all the team!

We couldn’t have asked for better hosts than Anna, Kate & Lottie. Such lovely ladies with a great taste in music! They dealt with many dietary needs and went out of their way to meet our cheeky food requests! Definitely one of the best VIP Ski chalet experiences!

  • Globes - Shooters - Yak

My VIP-Ski ski holiday in Avoriaz was exceptional, thanks in large part to the outstanding efforts of hosts Ella, Violet, and Lottie. Their warm hospitality and attention to detail made our stay truly enjoyable. The accommodation was fantastic, and the overall experience exceeded expectations. I'd highly recommend making the trip to Happy Hours for après-ski on Wednesday. However, be mindful of the busy returning buses to Avoriaz during that time. The popularity of happy hour can lead to crowded transportation, causing some inconvenience. Nonetheless, with the right planning, it's a small trade-off for an otherwise fantastic trip.

The chalet and its location have really set the bar high after my first ski holiday, but I have to say the girls who looked after us really made the experience perfect. Violet, Lottie and Ella couldn’t have been more amazing! Great girls, professional but gave a warm friendliness that made us feel at home. 10/10 would 100% recommend to friends and family.
