Looking for a snowboarding holiday? You’re in the right place. Our portfolio of chalets and hotels are located in some of the finest resorts in France and Austria.
Whether you want to try snowboarding for the first time, or an expert that loves carving through fresh corduroy, enjoy hanging out in the park to try your hand at pipes, kickers and ramps, or looking for the deepest powder and love exploring off-piste, we’re sure to have the perfect resort for you.
Here at VIP SKI we’re often guilty of referring generically to ‘ski holidays’, but rest assured, we don’t want to alienate any snowboarders out there. Our holidays are perfect for skiers and snowboarders alike.
Snowboarding Holidays in France
There are over 250 ski resorts across France, so how do you decide which to choose for your next snowboarding holiday? Well we’ve done some of the hard work so you don’t have to.
Our French resorts are classed as some of the best destinations in the world for both skiing and snowboarding, high altitude, great historic snow records (and superb snowmaking facilities just in case), efficient lift systems, and of course, our beautiful chalets provide the perfect place to relax after a day on the slopes.
Many people recognise Alpe d’Huez for the famous 21 bend ascent on the Tour de France, but in the winter months it attracts a huge number of boarders to its slopes. With a short transfer from Grenoble airport, an altitude up to 3330m and over 230km of pistes, not to mention the longest black run in the world, and two snow parks, this is a popular choice for many boarders.
If you’re looking to improve your technique ESF offer both private and group lessons, plus specialist lessons in off-piste, freestyle, heli-skiing and boardercross.
Avoriaz is the highest resort in the Portes du Soleil ski area, it has underrated off-piste and great terrain parks. The wider area gives access to 650km of pistes in 14 resorts and two countries, no snowboarder will be bored exploring here; think wide open powder fields, snow parks and boardercross, there’s a full blown superpipe and an eco park, the Burton Stash, twisting through the woods with natural freestyle features. If you’re looking for snowboarding lessons Evolution 2 has a range of classes to ensure you’re shredding up the piste at the end of the week.
Courchevel offers endless terrain across the Three Vallees, locally there are very few drag lifts (many a snowboarders bug bear), amazing piste riding to be found, and huge potential for off piste. The family park above 1850 has wall rides and hips, rails, kickers and boxes, and there’s a boardercross too. Our friends at Oxygene, New Generation and TDC all offer snowboarding lessons for all levels and abilities.
If you’re looking for high altitude and a snow sure resort, then you can’t go wrong with La Plagne. Beginner boarders will love the wide open cruisy blues allowing you to venture beyond the nursery slopes pretty quickly. La Plagne also has a great reputation for off-piste, perfect for the powder hounds. There are two snow parks for different abilities and also an air bag for those daring enough to practice jumps and flips. Our friends at New Generation and Oxygene offer private and group snowboard lessons for all levels.
At the very centre of the massive 3 Valley’s there is a serious amount of terrain to be explored on a snowboard from Meribel. The local area offers plenty of wide open pistes and tree lined runs, plus more challenging blacks and moguls if that’s what you get your kicks from. The Moon Park and Area 43 are both well equipped and will keep even the most enthusiastic park rat entertained.
Looking for lessons? Oxygene and TDC both offer private and group snowboarding lessons and Cab9 offer specialist lessons for freestyle and off piste.
Morzine is a resort in the Portes du Soleil ski area with plenty to offer whether you’re a first time snowboarder or an experienced powder hound. Generally not a resort chosen by advanced boarders as they favour higher or more famous resorts, so when the snow dumps here there is always plenty of powder to be explored. The snow park in Mont Cherie has kickers for all levels and an air bag for those brave enough. Head up to Avoriaz to explore the Burton Stash, the natural snow park. If you need lessons we can recommend New Generation and Easy2ride.
One of the most popular and well known of our French resorts, Val d’Isere lives up to its reputation as one of the best resorts for both snowboarding and skiing holidays; offering a huge and varied terrain, at high altitude, with a great snow record, lively après ski and quality accommodation.
Snowboarders will delight to know there are very few drag lifts here or irritating flats. The park has lots to offer for all abilities, and if you want to try your hand in the pipe there is one in neighbouring Tignes.
If it’s off-piste you’re hankering for, then hire a guide to be shown the best of what is on offer here. On piste there’s a huge array of slopes that any boarder would enjoy riding. Our partners at Oxygene, TDC and Evolution2 offer various snowboarding lessons.
Snowboarding Holidays in Austria
Austria is a truly beautiful country and is home to almost 80 resorts for winter holidays, we offer snowboarding and ski holidays in three of the best Austrian resorts, all in the Arlberg region; Lech, St Anton & St Christoph. Choose Austria for cute villages, friendly locals, great après ski, and good value for money. All of our resorts are just a short transfer from Friedrichshafen airport and our holidays include flights from London Gatwick, coach transfers and catered chalet or hotel.
If its power and partying you’re after then St Anton should be top of your list. This ski area has a huge amount on offer; 305km of perfectly groomed pistes ideal for seeking out early morning corduroy, and then there’s the 180km of freeride trails, not to mention the STANTON Park with kickers, rails, boxes and more, the local phrase ‘Shred or go home’ says it all. Our friends at New Generation offer group and private lessons for anyone looking to improve their technique.
This place is a hidden gem, a tiny, quiet resort just a few minutes from St Anton, and giving you access to the vast Arlberg ski area. For beginners the nursery slopes just above the resort offers a relaxed environment to familiarise yourself with a snowboard (although these are served by drag lifts). The Alrberg region is an off piste mecca, but they also have several marked ‘ski routes’ which are not pisted, great for that first exploration of powder. Head over to St Anton for the snow park.
Think traditional Austrian charm, varied terrain for intermediate and advanced boarders, 305km of piste and a further 180km of off-piste. Top that with a short transfer from Friedrichshafen, altitude up to 2811m and usually unclouded slopes, we believe any snowboarder will thoroughly enjoy a week in Lech. Head to Oberlech for cruisy motorway blues, and to Zurs for slightly steeper reds. There’s no wonder GoPro made many a video here.
For Beginners to Advanced Snowboarders
Whether you’re a complete beginner just considering your first snowboarding holiday, or a seasoned pro, each one of our 10 resorts will have something to offer. Our ski and snowboard school partners will ensure your first experience is a good one, and by the end of the week will have you shrieking with joy when you link more than 10 turns without falling. They will encourage more advanced boarders to ride fakie, or teach you how to nail your first grab.
