We have had a really enjoyable week with VIP. There have been some standout bits as follows:
Lily, our nanny, was absolutely fantastic. The girls loved spending their afternoons with her. Nothing was too much trouble and she planned lovely activities for them, she even arranged for the ski school to pick up and drop off at the chalet. She is a huge asset to VIP and we have already asked if she is in La Plagne next year, we would love to have her again!
Our chalet was perfect. The location, right on the slope down to the lifts, is the best we have ever stayed in. It was also clean and comfortable and made our stay really enjoyable.
The Avoriaz Alpine Ski School instructors, Laurent and Pierre were a joy. The girls loved their lessons and they were super accommodating and made their week really fun.
There were a couple of things that could have been better and if rectified, would make the whole experience really lovely:
1. We found breakfast to be cooked well, however, we were lacking pastries and juices on multiple mornings which was a bit disappointing. On the morning we had pancakes, there was no lemon. These are just little things but they are basic really and could solved easily.
2. We found the evening meals to be lacking in seasoning and sometimes a bit cold (sweet potato puree with steak particularly). Again, I think this is easily solved and would make an huge difference. Afternoon tea was always lovely.
3. This may just be us, but we found the quantity of food a bit overwhelming, particularly when offered canapés as well as the 3 courses.
4. Our host missed breakfast on New Year’s Day. It took all morning for someone to get back to us, despite trying on multiple channels. Adam, the resort manager, has his blue ticks turned off on WhatsApp so we didn’t know if the message was read or not and the “urgent” email address appeared to be unmanned. Our instagram message was read but not responded to. This just lead to us feeling frustrated and annoyed which could have been avoided by someone just responding to say “I’m so sorry to hear this, please bear with me etc etc….”
When Adam did come back to us, he was apologetic and helpful and kept checking in on us for the rest of the holiday which was appreciated. I would also like to say that Anna, our flexi-host was lovely, charming and really tried hard to make sure we were well looked after.
