All the superlatives in their marketing material are accurate - amazing ski in/ ski out location, delicious food awaiting after a long day on the slopes, and a luxurious chalet finished with high end specs.
It was, however, the subtle things that blew me away. The hosts truly do not have a job description other than to make sure we enjoy our holiday. My children and I enrolled in ski lessons that took place at different times and places. We were a bit stressed about finding our way around and on the first day, Jack accompanied me to my meeting point (while even carrying my skis and shoes for me!) and Lucy accompanied my husband with our kids and equipment to make sure they got to their lessons on time. Lucy and Jack went out of their way to cater to the kids from make-your-own pizzas for dinner to different puddings for kids and adults each night.
I was also impressed by the VIP team spirit. On the last day, as I was struggling to carry all my children’s ski equipment down the hill back to the ski hire shop, Henry, the host from Chalet Beluga next door saw me fumbling down the hill and swooped the gear out of my hands and accompanied me to return the equipment. It didn’t matter that I wasn’t one of “his” guests in “his” chalet, but this level of care spoke volumes about how the VIP team works together for all their guests.
Regarding the resort, the car free nature of Avoriaz is unique, but does present challenges of getting around especially with young children who don’t ski in/out. It was a trek pulling a 3 year old to and from the Village des Enfants on a sledge each day. Understanding the layout of the resort better now, I would recommend a chalet closer to the resort center if you have young children.
