  • Fifth week at Altitude Lodge

    We like this place a lot - we came here first in March 2011 and this week was our fifth visit. The ski in - ski out location is ideal and the runs in the local area suit us well, though on this occasion we also did some long walks. The staff were excellent throughout, always friendly and helpful and good to be around. The food is sometimes a bit of a problem. If you don't want to eat meat or fish, it's not going to be a very interesting week. I'm told the meat is mostly very good and the fish I had was excellent. But vegetarian food isn't taken very seriously here, which is a pity. Breakfast has changed from previous years - the cereals provided are mostly the kind that suit children and the various mixes of oats, muesli etc have disappeared. There's fruit but in quite small quantities. The yoghurt's just the usual Danone brand, nothing unusual. Still there was some good bread and cooked breakfasts are worth waiting for. Apart from a wet Monday, the weather was very good, exceptional for January. So we had a a really enjoyable time getting out, skiing mostly in the morning and walking in the afternoon. We will certainly be back!

    Had a great week at Montjola. Fantastic staff and food, and all in all a great week. Abi at reception was particularly friendly and helpful. Murray was very helpful when road and rail links were shut. Definitely went the extra mile helping with information and making sure we had lifts to bus/ station. Austrian ski school organised through VIP was great (but beware starts at 9.30, not 10!) Other guests were very friendly too. Only 2 negatives for us was the mini bus transfer to slopes which can only stop in 1 place in town, so still a reasonably long walk for kids to ski school (especially if you use inter sport to store skis) and often a longish wait in afternoon (but 1 bus broken for part of week so maybe not representative), and the noise from the bar for room on level 3 for last few nights of our stay - maybe need a midnight shut down time for bar area to give level 3 some sleep! A great holiday. Would definitely return to VIP ski for another trip on the basis of this first one.

    I had not been to Val D’Isère for a few years so it was great to revisit it and experience the VIP hospitality. The chalet was centrally located, with friendly, helpful staff and comfortable accommodation. The Club option provided in house chefs (Curtis & Josh) whose meals were consistently of an exceptional standard and the choice available throughout the week was impressive. Chalet hosts were helpful and attentive and keen to make the week as enjoyable as possible for the guests. The Concierge Service was useful and informative and they were always willing to try to help resolve any problems . My only negative comment would be that the driver availability was limited as there seemed to be more demand than supply, although conditions were challenging so perhaps they were prioritised elsewhere in resort. All in all, a memorable trip and I will be looking at future potential holiday options ⛷

    Wonderful time in St Anton (finally) with VIP Ski. In very trying circumstances (road to St Anton closed due to avalanche risk) Kat and the whole team were fantastic. They managed to find another resort and put us up for a couple of nights. It meant we could get out to ski rather than being stuck in an airport hotel, as others in resort had to - truly first class service. When in resort the standards were excellent. The Montjola is nice and the staff fantastic. The food was brilliant every single night with attractive options for each meal and course. This was my second trip with VIP and the third will be following in short order. All of the staff were great though some special mentions to Kat for her help and organisation early on; Matt throughout; Toby at meal time. The rest were also awesome, not a complaint or bad word to be said.

    Chalet is in a fantastic position. Evening meals very good and wines excellent although service particularly relating to wine very poor. Breakfasts a shambles I'm afraid. Chef clearly struggled to get out of bed in the mornings and everything at breakfast time was generally a state of disarray! We like to be out on the pistes early and frustrated at having till wait till 08 00 which actually turned out to be more like 08 30 at the earliest. Very poor fruit selection at breakfast, cooked option was very good but far too slow. Staff were all without exception lovely but I personally feel, in serious need of better training. Thomas a very accommodating and helpful manager but needs to toughen up on the staff!

    My first time skiing and the guys at VIP were great! The overall experience has left me wanting more and making me want to book another trip with VIP! The chef milo was always accommodating and his dishes are so creative and presented with passion! Ben and Harry were always smiling and ensured that our time spent in the resort was a happy one! Would like to also thank Gemma and Jordan for their continued help throughout the holiday, Gemma even taking the time to book restaurants for us on the Wednesday and the Saturday! Would love to go back to Alpe d’Huez, it’s a great resort and has exceeded my expectation! Thanks guys!

    Although we were confronted with the news when we landed that we could not get into the resort due to high avalanche risk the VIP staff, led by the very capable Kat, were excellent and looked after us to the best of their abilities within the available resources. When we eventually arrived Mark and Jess in Haus Gamskar were great. The food and facilities were up to the usual standard. Once again, VIP's strength is their attention to detail, we will be back.

  • Too much fun was had...

    I just returned from a week at Club Bellvarde in a party of 6 - it's safe to say too much fun was had. The week that we were there was a big one for us with there being, a birthday in our group, Scottish Burns night and Australia Day. I am Australian and one of the other girls is Scottish. We could not have had more fun - not only were the VIP staff great, attentive and polite they even got involved in all our antics on each of the days. Baking a cake for the birthday, putting up with a night of Scottish partying - Jack even wore a kilt! And listening to every Australian song ever made! This made it all the more special. The Chalet was everything we had expected, clean, spacious and homely. In addition, the hot tub is a fantastic way to wind down! Thank you to the whole team in the Chalet, Chef Sam and his team, Jack, Rose, Luke and Joe - we really enjoyed ourselves. Special mention to Kieran - We hope you recover soon mate.

    What a wonderful first VIP experience we have had! Jack and his team did an absolute fantastic job of looking after us with Sam and his assistants providing some first class cuisine in the kitchen! We had some lively evenings with the other guests who provided plenty of entertainment!!!! Ski conditions, like the chalet, were first class! Thank you.
