Testimonials

Clearly we think we're great, why come to work otherwise. But what do our customers say? We know that web sites are littered with anonymous out of date testimonials that it’s difficult to trust, but we're displaying comments written by our current and recent guests live, here on our web site. We're laying it bare, warts and all, and with the name of the writer attached. It’s not easy to look at yourself objectively, so don’t listen to us, listen to our guests.

We had a wonderful week with sunshine and great snow. The chalet was perfect for group of 7 and our hosts could not have been better, 5 stars! A few problems with the concierge team booking restaurants but all in all a really fabulous week. We would definitely book again.

Overall a very good holiday. Being able to Ski in/out of hotel and proximity of kids club to slope gave kids maximum ski time without exhaustion. The apartment worked very well with 2 families. Georgie looked after us very well. Lily in kids club was excellent with our 2. Mention in dispatches to Matt and Murray for logistics assistance to lunch twice for non skiing Maria. What could you do better? Not much. Upgrade to fresh fruit juices and adding avocado into bfast mix. A bit of fizz/beer on inbound transfer?

  • A lovely lodge.

Bear Lodge fits well within the VIP stable. We are repeat VIP customers having stayed in chalets at both Meribel and Val. Whilst we felt we ultimately preferred a chalet, for a family taking 2 rooms and staying with another family it worked well. The staff were excellent in particular. They were highly enthusiastic and personable. Murray, the hotel manager was particular great and sorted out a mix up with our oldest child's ski pass for us (he turned 13 between booking and arrival and therefore needed an adult pass not a child, which had been mis booked). Cal on the waiting staff was also gregarious and lovely. The facilities had everything you would ask for and were of high standard and the concierge was also very helpful. We felt that the ski school via ESF was a little lacking, with the instructors looking more at the age of the children than ability. Whilst UK instructors may be a rare thing post Brexit, the weathered 60 year old French local doesn't resonate well with children, even ours who have lived in Canada and speak pretty good French.

VIP did extremely well. The transfers worked well overall (although we were dropped off at the wrong chalet which then involved an unwelcome walk), the food was very good, the wine was good and the staff were all excellent. The ski hire and lift pass was smooth. This would definitely have been a 5* rating if two of the roadside bedrooms weren’t so noisy. At nighttime, with the bedroom windows only slightly ajar, the road traffic and noise from people is very loud - we all had to sleep with earplugs in if the window was open (essential!).

  • Half term family ski trip

Lovely chalet girls, very helpful staff, great food, nice atmosphere, fun resort. The chalet was in a great central location near both main lifts. We just felt it was a little expensive for what it was - the interior and the layout could have been better for the money - more like a 4 star hotel feel than luxury chalet. However very happy with the overall experience. Thank you to the team!

  • Still great the second time!

Our second time to Bear Lodge this year! We really enjoyed our week in January, so thought we would do it again for half term as it really is a great set up and by far the best place we have stayed (we have done a few over the years). In particular, the ski in/ski out right from the boot room is fantastic, with a couple of high speed chair lifts less than 100m away down the piste and you are quickly into everything Les Arcs has to offer. The food is superb, all the staff super friendly (special mentions to Connor, Cal, Sylvie, Sam and Charlotte) and there is a relaxed vibe throughout with lots of likeminded guests. Lovely sauna/steam/pool/hot tub, nice bar area showing any sporting fixture you want, and we watched Top Gun 2 in the cinema! I suspect we will be back - thanks guys :)

  • Not as good as previous stays at The Altitude

    Ashley Law 20 Feb 2023

As usual the room and chalet did not let us down, however there were a few things that weren’t as high level as previous stays… 1)Drinks availability. Only basic wines/beers available in the chalet. No spirits. We were told we could buy our own from town. It would have been handy to know this prior to arrival and things could have been bought from Duty Free, as the town is not walking distance. 2) Chef’s night off. This has not normally happened due to the location of the chalet and it was difficult to find somewhere to eat in town. An idea would be to have menus/restaurant info in the chalet so tables could be pre-booked. 3) Food. This was not as high standard as previously. It would have been nice to have a choice of mountain/French cuisine. Although I understand a lot of people may have eaten this for lunch, so maybe a lighter option could help too.
