  • Bear Lodge - great chalet and staff, let down by the food

I stayed in Bear Lodge for a week with my wife and two kids (aged 7 and 4) for a week. On the whole we had a great time and enjoyed staying in Bear Lodge with one major caveat. First the positives - the staff are all lovely, positive and fun. Particular mention to the amazing nannies in Bear Cubs who did a terrific job with our kids for the week when they weren’t skiing. The staff in the bar and restaurant were also terrific. The chalet itself is also ideal for a family of our size and ages - the rooms are well appointed and the location is amazing right on the slopes by two of the major chair lifts. The spa facilities are nice and the bar is well done (although a little lacking in atmosphere at times). Now the negative, which was only really one but it was significant. The food is just not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel and the chef / kitchen staff really let the whole experience down. My main issue was with the kids food which was often inedible for kids so they ended up eating plain pasta or bread. None of the kids meals came with vegetables and when we made a specific request for green vegetables we were twice told we couldn’t have any - the chef seems to think kids will eat some uncooked sliced peppers and carrots and that means no other veggies are required. The fact none were provided in the first place was bad, but to refuse to just stick some on when we requested it was pretty unacceptable. Now to the adult food - this was hit and miss. The breakfast is mostly good but for dinner we probably had 2-3 nice meals out of 7. The vegetarian options were particularly bad and one particular lowlight was fried rice which hadn’t been cooked before it was fried so it was totally inedible. In conclusion, Bear Lodge is a really well appointed and well positioned chalet hotel in a great resort with lovely staff, let down by the food. If they could sort out the catering it would be a 5 star review without a doubt.

  • Excellent chalet staff

Our stay at the chalet was nothing short of perfection! From the cosy, beautifully maintained chalet to the stunning location right near the slopes, everything exceeded our expectations. The staff truly made our experience unforgettable. Betty and Alex were absolutely wonderful—always friendly, attentive, and eager to help with anything we needed, from sorting out ski gear to recommending the best spots on the mountain. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and looked after throughout our stay. Special mention must go to Chef Jack, who was an absolute star. He catered to every need and preference with such care and creativity, ensuring every meal was not only delicious but perfectly suited to everyone in our group. From hearty breakfasts to exquisite dinners, his cooking was a real highlight of our trip. This chalet is a gem, and the staff make it truly exceptional. We can’t wait to come back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable ski holiday. Thank you, Betty, Alex, and Chef Jack, for making our stay so incredible!

  • Bear Lodge holiday

On arriving into Geneva airport, the concierge team were helpful and stayed in touch as we were concerned we may miss our transfer due to a long queue at passport control. All worked out and we left shortly after the scheduled departure time. Arrival at Bear Lodge was straightforward and check-in was smooth. We were lucky to get the final slot that evening to pick-up our ski hire (the guys at Intersport were very helpful indeed, but the online queueing system was a bit clunky). Having the ski hire within the hotel footprint was super helpful and a brilliant addition. Boot lockers great, but on two days we found that the boot warmers had not been on, meaning boots were damp from previous day. Our room was clean and well put together. The floor space is on the small side (considering two people plus kit), but the bed was much larger than expected and super comfortable. Bed linen was good, we would have preferred synthetic pillows and duvet (personal preference due to allergies). We had a chalet above us, and whilst it didn’t disturb our sleep, there was significant noice morning and night (sounding like furniture being dragged directly above us). The food offering was brilliant over the week, lots of choice and cooked very well indeed. The staff were attentive, but service was a little slow and disjointed at times. Appreciate difficult to coordinate all tables. Our morning coffee (lovely idea) was sadly forgotten on the first morning, concierge were again helpful in following up. Welcome and farewell drinks a nice addition. We’d have joined the quiz, but sadly the timings didn’t work out with our dinner sitting. Shower gel/hand soap was very nice. Would have been good to have some other little extras (cotton buds etc). Shower was great, although water was slightly lukewarm on two of the nights - unsure if this was due to others having used the hot water earlier in the evening. Being able to access the piste from the hotel was fantastic, and having such easy access to kit lockers was amazing. The wellness centre was brilliant, we liked and appreciated having the quiet hours. Thank you for the birthday cake, very kind. Overall a fantastic week, lots to love.

Thanks Becca for looking after us so beautifully. Your cooking was absolutely fantastic and your rapport with a bunch of oldies was fabulous. Only thing which could have been better was a more comfortable bed, which was perhaps a little tired. However I appreciate this is very subjective. Thanks again

  • Fabulous family break

We had a wonderful time staying at Bear Lodge with our 10month old son. This was his first time in a nursery environment and Jess and her team were outstanding. He was very happy in the nursery all week and we felt very confident in the care he was receiving; including when he was a bit miserable teething with earache. This enabled us to really enjoy our week of skiing. The hotel really is ski in and ski out and the boot room is very convenient with each room having its own cupboard and boot rack. The rooms were a great size with lots of storage and a well appointed bathroom with a bath which was great! Our only slight criticism was the quality of coffee served at breakfast which was a bit hit and miss. Having a good quality coffee to start the day is an essential for parents with young kids, so perhaps sending a couple of the serving team on a barista course would really add to the luxury element of the holiday! We also found the music in the bar a little loud after dinner on a couple of evenings.
