I have to say I am a VIP convert. I have had many Chalet holidays in the past but this outstrips them all. Emilia our Chalet host was just perfect she was Friendly without being familiar, Interested without being intrusive, Charming without being creepy and professional without being pompous. The food was excellent and her willingness to accommodate our needs excellent. This can be said for all the members of the VIP team, every single VIP member of staff I met was friendly and helpful without seeming smarmy or fake. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble and even when a luggage tag fell off at the airport one of the team came running to find us and put it on our luggage. The hosts work hard and put their guest first no matter what, on Emilia's day off we forgot to take out our door key with a little help she was tracked down and stopped her night out to come back and let us in that is great service. Thank you all for making us truly feel like VIPs'
From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and the chalet team were there to show us to our room. The team looking after us were all very friendly and did an excellent job all week. The chef and sous chef worked hard to ensure everyone received what they had requested and throughout the week I didn't hear a single complaint. The team remained positive throughout the week and nothing requested seems to be any trouble to them. The club aspen obviously has many individuals staying and therefore breakfasts were spread out to accommodate the different needs and the team delivered without failure. The team worked well together.
Having travelled with VIP ten times over recent years, expectations of VIP holidays are very high due to their outstanding past performance. Hotel Theodul has all the basics in place but there is a missing link in delivery that just does not quite deliver. Brilliant start with unscheduled buffet lunch provided on arrival. Arrangments for ski rental and storage are quite exceptionally good, although expensive. Thereafter, whilst the basics were delivered, expectations fell short. The senior management were largely invisible, which may have contributed to the staff being helpful but directionless. The food was acceptable but no memorable meals. Inexperienced chalet hosts have, in the past, delivered meals as good as the qualified chefs. Wine provided was ok but no more. The change of the Theodul from an hotel to a chalet hotel does not seem to have been made. Overall, this was a good offering but short of what one has come to expect of VIP.
After 20 years of chalet holidays, this was my first experience of VIP and first time in Val d'sere and I have fallen in love with both! It was fabulous from the start. Special mention to the coach transfer company that VIP uses - rarely have I driven to a ski resort with such careful and considerate drivers - even for this reason alone, I don't think I will ever book with another company again. Club Aspen is a beautifully designed chalet hotel - with so much space, it doesn't feel like 20 people are staying in the chalet - it feels like maybe 8 are staying. We were looked after so well from the cups of tea brought to our room when we woke, to the glasses of champagne each evening - thank you so so much James, Gabs and Olivia. And as for the food - oh my! Fabulous, fabulous! Neil and Jess, thank you. The best food that I have ever eaten on a chalet holiday - the highlights for me being the roast lamb on the first evening, and the lemon posset and shortbread. We had such a happy holiday, made so special by the VIP staff and the other 18 guests that we were fortunate to spend the week with. Thank you.
