  • Good chalet in a crowded resort

    David M 15 Feb 2020

They've built too much accommodation in La Plagne so some of the pistes get very - and sometimes dangerously - crowded and there can be long lift queues, especially at the main lifts leaving accommodation centres. Many of the lifts are 6-seater chairs moving rapidly, so that helps to shorten waiting times but it would help if the lift staff were all as pro-active as the few who ensure that people fill the empty spaces on the chair rather than hanging back and blocking others in order to be able to spend the next 10 minutes sitting next to the person they've been talking to all day. On the other hand, there's a huge range of pistes to suit most abilities and weather conditions: from glacier ski-ing in the sunshine to sheltered runs through the forest below when the clouds descend and the wind speed rises. The apartment itself is in a superb position, with the main dining room/lounge looking down at at the ski school assembly point and a magnificent view of the pistes and mountains, as well as being close to the shops. The food is pretty good too and sometimes excellent and the two people running the chalet, Yas and Will, couldn't be friendlier or more helpful, right from the morning coffee/tea delivered to your bedroom door to the dessert, cheese and coffee at the end of the ample and tasty 3-course dinner some 14 hours later (though they do get a break during the day). Rooms in France are notoriously small. In that context, Lucerne's bedrooms are quite reasonable but it does help if, like me, you have single occupancy of a double-room. The beds are comfortable, the floors carpeted and the curtains do cut out the light. However, it is an apartment, not a standalone chalet, so when the people 2 floors below – Lucerne's on the 5th floor –decide to come back drunk at 3am and start having a raucous party, you may have a disturbed night unless you've remembered to pack a good set of earplugs. Each room has its own bathroom, with bath and shower (though curiously for France, no bidet!) but it's a tiny bathroom: in mine, the towel rail was where you'd expect the toilet-roll holder to be – that important object was attached to the inside of the bathroom door, so you'd want to be careful not to hang any long clothing on the hook above it.

  • Superb Sakami

I had a wonderful holiday in Chalet Sakami, thanks to Eamonn and Carlie's superb cooking and great company. I was on holiday by myself, which I've never done before, and they both made me feel very comfortable and were really helpful in giving me advice and tips. The chalet itself was impeccably clean and with all mod cons, not quite sure how I'll adjust back at home! I loved Avoriaz too, the easy access to the lifts and clear directions on the slopes made it a joyful skiing experience. A five-star holiday, no doubt.

  • Amazing

Love traveling with VIP, the service they provide and their team are second to none. The ski resort offered so many runs for different abilities it was impossible to try them all. Elena and Connor we’re just fantastic at looking after us all. The food was outstanding and attention to detail when serving was so professional. Unfortunately one of our party had a nasty accident on the first day but Elena and Connor took such great care of her, nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation didn’t quite live up to the chalet we had in Alp d’huez. It was quite small and noisy although nicely decorated (and kept immaculately clean) with not much room for ski and boot storage for the 3 penthouses but I think we were very spoilt on that front last year. Really can’t recommend VIP enough for providing a top quality thoroughly relaxing 5 star holiday. Can’t wait to book the next one!

  • Great team!

Dear All at St Christoph, many thanks for your huge contribution to an extremely enjoyable week - even if the first three days were gloomy outside, they were never less than comfortable, friendly and delicious inside. And then, of course, those three beautiful days. You're a great lot, invidious to single anyone out but, on the aesthetic side, Hamza's ferrying of the canapés on the last night was very splendid! Food was excellent, meat and fish cooking really standing out. And the 'house' wines were very good, I thought - no need to go off-piste for those. Congratulations to you all - you were the stars of the whole show!

  • Chalet Skiing

    Deborah Warde 12 Feb 2020

My daughter and me had a wonderful week staying at VIP Club Bellvarde from the 2nd – 9th February 2020. The staff in the Chalet were great, they were always smiling, very willing and the two Chefs produced some fabulous meals each evening. However, with all good comments there have to be some negatives & I hope you will view the points below as ‘constructive feedback’ rather than criticism. 1. We found it really hard to make our meal choices for the week on the Sunday evening at dinner when we had had a long day travelling. If this is the way you choose to do this, I would suggest waiting until Monday morning at Breakfast when ‘one’ would be fresher and in a better place to make a decision. 2. You say that Club Belvarde has ‘flexible dining’. In our opinion, that would be slightly different to the reality. We would suggest that there is a blackboard in the main area of the chalet detailing the meal for that evening. If someone had a real aversion to the meal (bearing in mind you would state any dietary requirements before you arrive) then you could be offered an alternative. 3. The blackboard could also provide basic daily information such as weather and skiing conditions, temperatures, resort updates. A welcome pack to Club Belvarde in each room would be really useful as again, you are given all the information when you arrive & because you’ve been travelling all day, you forget things! 4. When Izzy was not in the Chalet, the boys were less able and on one day we arrived for breakfast only to find both tables in a total mess with no clean china or cutlery. The table had not been cleared from the early risers! We cleared our own space and found clean china etc. 5. The wonderful indoor pool and sauna is a great facility but sadly despite being reported as not working, it took 2 days to fix. Very disappointing as such a wonderful facility to have! 6. The Chalet was not overly clean! 7. The evening routine was canapes at 7.30 for dinner at 8. This never happened! We usually ate around 8.30. On one occasion when a large group had been spending rather too long in a bar enjoying Apres Ski! We ate around 9 oclock which was not a problem except that by 9.45 we were being ushered away from the table so the team could clear up and leave the chalet for the evening. I think they need to be flexible. 8. The outside access to the path/piste was up steps & was treacherous. Most other chalets had their steps cleared so guests had easy access to the piste. Club Belvarde had minor clearing & I can honestly say, as a woman over 50, I found it really hard each morning to get up these slippery steps. If it was done regularly, it would not be a big issue, in my opinion. 9. The wine fridge was not cold and the white wine was often warm and had to be put outside in the snow! 10. The daily room cleaning/bin emptying was ‘hit & miss’. It was certainly not done everyday 11. Whilst I would love to trust everyone in the world, staying in a chalet is not different to staying in a hotel & we chose to lock our room everyday (particularly as our safe didn’t work) One guest pointed out that even though you locked your room, the keys were left in the basket by the boot locker and anyone could have access to your key! I did report the safe but nothing happened. 12. We were unfortunately involved in the storms and major delays on 9th February. There was absolutely no communication from VIP. Once we had gone through security we were ‘on our own’. Luckily for us, we kept the card that we’d been given and managed to get hold of the Resort Manager who put us in touch with Andy, who was ‘landside’ at Grenoble. He tried to help us and keep us informed. However, we were incredibly lucky to have a brilliant BA captain who was fantastic at keeping us informed. After a 11 hour delay we got back to Gatwick. On the whole, the VIP Ski experience was a positive one, the staff at the Chalet were great and very helpful but very young. I felt that they would benefit from an older colleague, a Manager, who was there daily. Dan was there from time to time but he wasn’t always around for the daily running of the Chalet. I hope these comments will help future VIP clients and you will act on some of my observations.

  • Fantastic staff at the Hotel Theodul. All were friendly, efficient and helpful.

A traditional Austrian chalet-hotel run by VIP Ski's brilliant staff. They couldn't do much about the rain up to 2000 metres for the first couple of days so our week in Lech was OK instead of great. Area Manager James handled the delayed and subsequently cancelled departure of our return flight on Sunday 9th February (Storm Ciara) with impressively calm efficiency. As it turned out we spent an unexpected, wonderful evening in the town of Friedrichshafen on the shore of Bodensee. What a great place! worth a trip in other circumstances - only 2 train stops from Friedrichshafen airport. Thanks to you all. Jane and Tony Upfold

  • Disappointing

    N R 11 Feb 2020

We have been to Theodul previously. The first year it was fantastic but has fallen in quality each year since. The obvious cutbacks in budget are now too severe. Canteen type food (not the chef’s fault but due to the budget) and none of the attention to detail that previously existed and that one would expect for a holiday in this price range. Most of the staff are well meaning but are very young and have no idea how to do their job. The mattresses need replacing. Sadly this review won’t be published or acted upon.

I'm extremely sorry to hear that we failed to deliver the holiday you were expecting. Our Operation Director will certainly be in touch to discuss this in more detail with you. Nici Hardy, Marketing Manager

  • Glad I didn't pay the advertised price!

    James Powell 10 Feb 2020

I have been on countless chalet holidays over a 30 year skiing period, ranging from budget to exclusive accommodation. I usually see why they are priced at their respective levels. The advertised price for Bellacima Lodge was around £1,800 although most paid less due to a late booking. The consensus amongst the guests was that at the discounted price, it represented reasonable value, but at the higher, non-discounted price we would have expected far better. The chalet is indeed reasonably well appointed and well equipped. Cinema room (which was barely used), lap pool (used once for 5 minutes) and pool table (totally ignored). These are a nice touch but fail to compensate for the average dinners and poor breakfasts. Every cooked breakfast was identical with a choice of bacon, egg , tomato and/or mushrooms. This soon became a standing "Groundhog Day" joke amongst the guests. There was no toast all week as the toaster was broken (yes, really). Even in budget chalets, the breakfasts are more appetising and varied. Wine was included at dinner, but no beer or soft drinks, much to the consternation of the guests. The staff were fine and the rooms themselves were comfortable. The shuttle bus was well organised and the drivers friendly. We all had a good trip, but agreed that overall there are many better value options out there. Could do better.

  • Unusual for a company to actually care about their customers

    Jonathan Tate 10 Feb 2020

From the start this was a great customer experience - the meet and greet, the chalet hosts, the food. All were top notch - James, Scott and Will provided super service - really attentive - and Lee was a superb chef - nothing was too much trouble. Chalet Alaska was great place for a base - an easy walk to both main ski areas - well equipped and felt newly refurbished. Ski VIP also excelled on the hugely disrupted journey home - flights were cancelled and whilst BA failed at every level the VIP staff at the airport stepped in, organised a flight from Grenoble, transport there and a night in a hotel. This got us home a day earlier than BA were offering - very impressed with the commitment of all the VIP staff. Overall a superb holiday and a disastrous end was averted through the dedication of the transfer staff, Hugely impressed and will definitively travel with VIP again,
