Second holiday with VIP. This time celebrating 2 x 60th and 2 x engagements.
I gave VIP the details of what we required and they gave us a good number of options. Chose La Plagne.
Booking process and communications before the holiday were very good. My multiple questions answered in good time.
Pick up in GVA was smooth, as was the transfer.
Great welcome into our chalet with the amazing host Yaz, with a special "You've just got Engaged" cake waiting for us, a really nice touch!
Beautifully appointed chalet. Fixtures and fittings by well known, and top quality brands, no expenses spared.
Rustic wooden cladding was very nice, but we were warned about the risk of splinters and most of us got one or two. Perhaps the bedside tables could be doing with sanding smooth: I managed to get a splinter under a finger nail when hunting for my specs one morning, owch!
Food: A very high standard and we particularly appreciated the pre-trip options choice (one non fish eater) The only down side was, there was too much! (Damned if you do, damned if you don't) I managed to clean every plate, but many of our party struggled. We feel that some of the meals weren't too well balanced. Maybe a few lighter starters. But I am just being picky!
Drinks: great choice of wine and very well stocked "residents" fridge. Our only real complaint was the limited non alcoholic drinks. Pre trip, I had specified that my wife doesn't drink and had asked for a few alternates, but there was only coke and tonic. We'd asked the same last year and she had a good choice of Fever Tree flavoured tonics. This year, some extras were bough and I had to pay 20E for them (less than 2 x Guinness on the piste) We actually didn't drink much wine at all, too knackered from snow sports, so it seemed a wee bit petty to charge for a few bottles of tonic.
Ski Room: Wow. So good, warm, dry, coffee, water and even a ski rental shop. Having paid for 6 adults to come away and being a bit of a cheapskate, I'd rented from Ski Republic in town, to save a few £££. In retrospect, I think it was a false economy, the effort of finding the shop and then getting some pretty tired old equipment, wasn't worth it.
Concierge service. What a brilliant team you had doing that. Nothing was too much trouble, Ben was a star and such a nice guy. One day a few chaps from Les Arc were over and they too were great: One of our party didn't take to skiing, so your guys were extra helpful in suggesting alternates and taking her there.
Quiz and Bingo: Again, Ben a great host and we won both events! Monta Rosa Mob rules ;) Even took a winning bottle of bubbly home for the soon-to-be weds to celebrate with.
Location: Hard to beat
Ski School. Our 2 x newbies took lessons with Oxygene and 1 loved it and came on really well. The one who didn't like a group lesson, switched to 3 x private lessons and Oxygene were able to transfer the group lesson payment to private, which I thought was very good of them. When our newbie decided not to ski her last 2 lessons, my wife took them instead. So refreshing to find a flexible company!
Eating out: We took the recommendation of eating at Chez Marie and weren't disappointed.
Roll on next year when it's just me and Mrs S to for me to pay for.
Thanks for an amazing holiday. Your staff appeared to genuinely care!
I had a load of good pictures to upload. Only allowed 4?
