Want to ski one of the largest ski areas in Austria this winter?

Perfect timing

It’s not a coincidence that we introduce the fabulous Hotel Theodul in Lech to our portfolio for next season, at the same time the Arlberg ski area becomes the largest linked ski area in Austria, and one of the largest in the Alps. Some might say its perfect timing! Whether you choose to holiday with us in Lech or St Anton next season you will have access to 305km of ski pistes served by 87 lifts.

Closing the loop

Previously skiers had to take a bus in order to ski the whole Arlberg area, but the introduction of 4 new lifts this summer will mean you no longer need to take your skis off and board the bus. Project leaders estimate that the new lifts will save around 120 bus journeys a day.

The link has been talked about for many years but we’re super excited that they will all be in place for the 2016/17 season. The investment is reported to be in the region of 40 million Euros.

Four new lifts

The Flexenbahn is the new 10-person gondola from Alpe Rauz, with a capacity of 2,400 people per hour and whisking you from bottom to top in 6 minutes. This will link up with the rerouted Trittkopf lift from Zürs.

The Trittkopf I and II lifts will replace the old lift from Zürs, which will be rerouted into a dogleg with a middle station. The Flexenbahn lift will join at the mid-station, giving skiers the option to descend to either valley or to head up to the Trittkopf top station.

The Albonabahn lift will start at Alpe Rauz and head up to the top of the Albona ridge, which is currently served by two slow (and notoriously cold) chairlifts from Stuben.

In a nutshell, this means that all resorts of the Arlberg skiing area – St. Anton and St. Christoph, Stuben, Zürs, Lech, Oberlech as well as Schröcken and Warth will be easily accessible on skis.

Be amongst the first to ski the ‘Run of Fame’

To commemorate the new link the Arlberg area will be creating a new ski circuit ‘The Run of Fame’, a 65km challenge with 18000m altitude difference. Not for those who like long lunches or coffee stops, an intermediate skier will need almost a full day to cover the entire run via the Arlberg, from Warth in the north via Lech/Zürs with the new Flexenbahn to St. Anton/Rendl in the south and back again.
