Best Ski Areas For Beginners In La Plagne

La Plagne has long been known as one of the most welcoming resorts in the French Alps and now it has the recognition to prove it. Recently voted Best Beginner Ski Resort in Europe in the Snomad Awards (as voted for by skiers themselves), it’s a destination that offers everything first-timers need: confidence-boosting terrain, well-connected villages, and a friendly atmosphere that makes learning to ski genuinely enjoyable.
In this guide, Oxygène ski instructor Sylvain shares his favourite beginner-friendly runs across the resort. From gentle blue pistes perfect for your first turns to wide, sun-soaked slopes with spectacular views, these are the areas he recommends to help skiers build skills, stay relaxed, and enjoy every moment on the mountain.
My name is Sylvain, and I’m a ski instructor at Oxygène Ski & Snowboard in La Plagne. I love sharing my passion for skiing with my clients, whether they’re complete beginners or more experienced skiers. Today, I’d like to share with you some of my favorites slopes in La Plagne.
What I love about La Plagne is the variety the resort offers. There are different villages, each with their own character. You’ll find slopes for every level, from easy runs through the forest to a glacier at over 3,000m.
No matter which village you stay in, there are slopes for every level, beginners, advanced, or experts, everyone can have fun!
If some of our clients want to explore a different village from the one they’re staying in, our private shuttle service can take them there. It’s a great way to enjoy slopes that better match their level, while still starting out comfortably from their accommodation.
Another advantage of La Plagne, in my opinion, is the fact the resort has multiple faces, as they are all well-exposed, we can enjoy excellent conditions throughout the whole season.
🔵 Boulevard piste, the promenade for first-time skiers:
This is a run I often take with my clients. Located near Plagne Centre, it’s a wide, easy blue slope. It feels almost like a scenic walk, perfect for learning how to control your speed and link your first turns without being stressed. It’s a reassuring slope, perfect for gaining confidence during your first days on skis
🔵 Arpette piste, a classic for progressing:
Arpette is a must! It’s a blue run accessible from the Arpette chairlift, in the Plagne Bellecôte area. It’s one of the most popular slopes for skiers looking to build confidence. The run is wide and smooth, and the best part: it faces south, so you can ski in the sun with views of Mont Blanc.
🔵 Tunnel piste, for a fun little challenge:
The Tunnel slope is well known for being fun: you actually ski through a snow tunnel, which learners really enjoy. But be careful: it’s not for your very first day! It’s a blue run, so you should already feel confident on your skis.
I usually save this one for later in the week, once my students have made good progress. In the tunnel, you need to control your speed and line carefully because the space is narrower.
La Plagne is often called a family-friendly resort, great for all levels, and I can say that’s true! It’s a varied area that helps you improve quickly and gain confidence.
As an Oxygène instructor, my goal is always the same: to see you leave at the end of the week with a smile, proud of your progress, and ready to try new challenges on the slopes!
