Elite sport can be so cruel

Our sponsored skier, Max Laughland, broke his collarbone and hand during training last week, the same week he fulfilled his season ambition and was selected in four events for the GB Team in the Junior World Championships starting today. Sport can be cruel. Max was in the shape of his life and has been a podium regular in FIS races right across Europe this winter.

It’s hard to be positive (particularly if you see the x-rays which we will spare you) but Max is young and qualifies again for the World Juniors next year. Having been released from hospital in Val Gardena, a surgeon’s appointment follows this week, but the operation following the accident seems to have been a success, and Max is focused on being back on the snow and racing again before the end of April.

Help us raise money for GB Skiing and to support Max through his recovery and back onto the snow. Bid for a holiday, no reserve. Once again we’re auctioning two 7 nights stays at Bear Lodge this winter, both for two people, with all funds raised going into the trust to support Max.

How much will you bid? There is no reserve, the 7-night stays will go to the highest bidders! Last year we raised almost £4000.

This auction is running exclusively to help raise funds for Max with all monies going to Max’s Winter Sports Foundation. Money raised will help towards to the considerable medical, kit, training, transport and accommodation costs as Max gets off the operating table, back onto the hill and focuses once again on races at events across Europe with the goal of qualifying once again for the 2025 World Junior Championships.

Bear Lodge is the heart and soul of our piste-side resort in the centre of Arc 1950. Just 30 bedrooms right on the edge of the piste and opposite the chairlifts. There is a spacious lounge, bar and dining room plus pool complex with sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi, massage suites, exercise room, cinema, kids playroom and ski room with lockers and boot warmers.

Just a short walk across the piste is the completely charming and rather magical traffic free village of Arc 1950 with its charismatic shops, cafés, bars and restaurants.

When?

Those placing the two highest offers can choose to travel week commencing 10 March, 17 March or 7 April 2024.

• 7-night stay in Bear Lodge for 2 people (week commencing 10 March, 17 March or 7 April 2024) 
• Choice of complimentary coach transfer from/to Geneva 
• Daily breakfast, afternoon tea and 3 course evening meal followed by cheese & coffee 
• Wine included with dinner 
• Canapés on first and last evenings 

The value of each stay is £3000-£3500, depending on when you chose to travel but there is no reserve and the two 7-night stays will be sold to the highest bidders.

The following items are not included in the bid price but can be pre-booked at a supplement: Lift passes; Ski equipment hire; Ski lessons; Childcare; Private taxi transfers.

Flights and insurance are not included.
