We have two children, ages 4 and 6, and this was our first family skiing holiday. After a week, none of us wanted to leave. That says everything about the quality of VIP's service. We all had a wonderful time and I'll happily recommend VIP Ski as a great chalet company for families. All the staff we met in Alpe d'Huez were kind, helpful and super keen, the accommodation is to a very high standard, and our chalet was genuinely ski-in, ski-out. I'd pop back for a cup of tea every afternoon and then hit the slopes again for the last hour. Food was excellent (especially breakfast) with a separate kids' tea at 6pm. All in all, a great experience. We'd book again.
In the spirit of genuine feedback, there were a few things I'd suggest VIP might look at..
Security:
We had two rooms on the ground floor in Chalet La Chapelle. You can enter this floor via a separate front door that also serves the boot room. A number of VIP staff use this entrance to access their own accommodation. We eventually complained to the resort manager because people were coming and going at 2....3...4am, and they weren't quiet. With two young children asleep in their own room on this floor, and no way of locking that room, it made us uncomfortable. I've no reason whatsoever to doubt VIP staff, but there were people coming and going past our rooms who we didn't know basically all night , and anyone with the front door access code can get in. There's a security issue here and I wouldn't repeat this particular accommodation set up for that reason alone.
Cleaning:
Our rooms were made-up and tidied every day, but for some reason the bedroom floors weren't mopped and remained filthy. I mean dirty to the point where the soles of our feet turned black and we had to wear slippers all the time so as not to carry the dirt onto the bed linen. This is nearly impossible to manage for two young children so their duvets and sheets go progressively dirtier as the week went on. Weirdly, none of the other guests in our chalet said they had this problem. In fairness, it's probably an invisible problem until you're walking around the rooms without shoes on, but it does need looking at.
Shower screens:
There are no proper shower screens so it's impossible to avoid flooding the bathroom floor every time you shower. This small but really irritating problem seemed to be common to all the rooms. Then you walk out of the bathroom with wet feet onto the dirty bedroom floor and think 'what do I do now?'
Exact location of the chalet on a map:
It would be really handy if the VIP website showed the address and exact location of each chalet on a map. We booked ski equipment and ski school independently and it took ages to work out the proximity of these services relative to our accommodation. I wanted a ski rental shop just across the road from the chalet, for example. It took about 40 minutes of Googling around to pin down the location of everything.
