Every season, La Plagne finds new ways to make skiing even better and this winter, the resort has a brand-new reason to get excited: the new Roche de Mio gondola, opening December 2025.

Faster, smoother, more efficient

This new gondola is part of La Plagne’s ongoing ski area modernisation programme, designed to improve accessibility and skier mobility across the resort. It will connect Plagne Bellecôte to Roche de Mio via the Col de Forcle, giving skiers a direct route to some of the area’s most popular high-altitude runs.

The first stage of this modernisation programme was completed with the Glaciers gondola, which opened in December 2023 and connects Roche de Mio to Live 3000 where you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the glaciers. This state-of-the-art lift provides quicker, more comfortable access to high-altitude terrain while offering an exceptional panoramic experience.

A highlight of this installation is Aérolive, a one-of-a-kind windowless cabin that offers 360° views of iconic peaks such as Mont Blanc and La Grande Casse while breathing in the crisp mountain air.

For a thrilling high-altitude adventure, try the Aérolive windowless cabin!

Improved accessibility this winter:

This winter, reaching the slopes at Roche de Mio will be quicker and easier than ever. With 168 gondolas in service along the line and the ability to transport up to 3,140 people per hour, you’ll spend less time waiting and more time enjoying the slopes. The tallest pylon on the route stands 37 metres high – the equivalent of a 12-storey building!

You’ll be able to reach the summit directly from:

  • Plagne Bellecôte via the gondola lift
  • Champagny via the Carella chairlift
  • The summit of Grande Rochette via the Roche de Mio gondola, boarding at the mid-station at the Col de Forcle

Pedestrian walks at Live 3000:

Not skiing? No problem – the mountains are still yours to explore. Accessible via the Glaciers gondola, Live 3000 can be reached in just a 10-minute ride from the top of Roche de Mio. Once there, there are three scenic trails for walkers to enjoy:

Le Creux de la Foudre – from the intermediate station (first stop of the Glaciers gondola):

Small loop: 1.6 km, 65 m elevation gain, approx. 50 minutes

Large loop: 3.4 km, 140 m elevation gain, approx. 1 hr 45 minutes

Live 3000 Discovery Trail – starting from the panoramic terrace, this trail connects three breathtaking viewpoints over 350 m with a 20 m elevation gain

When does the new gondola open?

The new lift is due to open in December 2025 in time for the peak Christmas and New Year holiday weeks.

Can non-skiers/pedestrians use the new Roche de Mio gondola?

Yes – non-skiers (and skiers who are tired and do not wish ski back down) can use the gondola. A one-day pedestrian pass with Live 3000 included costs €26 for children and seniors and €32 for adults (available from the ski pass office).
