How Many Les Gets Activities Can You Squeeze Into A Week?

Thu February 16, 2023

Les Gets comes alive in the winter, offering a diverse range of activities and snow sports to cater to every type of winter enthusiast (non-skiers included). Whether you’re craving a soothing massage or the exhilaration of driving through the forest on a skidoo, this charming alpine destination has it all.

Here is a list of some of the most popular activities Les Gets has to offer…

Ice Skating

Located right in the heart of Les Gets, the village ice rink is the perfect place for a romantic skate under the stars or some family fun in beautiful alpine surroundings before dinner. The ice rink is open every day depending on weather conditions, and skate hire is available for children (from size 26) and adults.

Husky Sleigh Ride

Get a taste of Alaska on a husky-powered sledge whilst taking in the breathtaking mountain scenery. Dog sledding began in Canada and Alaska where, in the far north, people were dependent on their dogs for protection, companionship, hunting, trapping and, most of all, transportation. Daily tours are available weather permitting. A true Alpine experience. (Minimum age 7.)

Caroline's Alpine Farm

This traditional Alpine farm opens its doors from mid-December onwards to watch the milking of the goats. Farm products for sale from 4-7pm (closed on Sundays).

Tobogganing

There are 5 dedicated sledging runs in Les Gets. Vieux-Chêne, Chavannes, Perrières (for children 6 and over), Lac des Ecoles and Boule de gomme.

Milka Purple Slope

All along the “Gentiane” slope, from the arrival point of the Chavannes cable car, the purple Milka slope is a fun ski run to help introduce beginners to the alpine environment. Lifesize fibreglass animals and displays provide visual information about animal and plant life for children. The Purple Cow comes along during the French school holidays to liven up the slope and hand out chocolates.

Snowmobile/Skidoo

Once the ski lifts have closed for the day, why not explore the snowy trails by snowmobile? After a detailed safety briefing from your instructor, you'll soon find yourself cruising along, enjoying the excitement of being in control of your own skidoo. If your kids are keen to have a go too, electric snowmobiling sessions are available for children aged 5-14 at the Mountain E-Park, located between the Lac des Ecoles and the blue "Gentiane" slope, under the "Chavannes Express" chairlift.

  • 20-minute beginner session from 5 years old: €25.
  •  1-hour lesson from 6 years old: €70.

Skydiving

For the ultimate thrill-seeking challenge, why not try jumping out of a helicopter with just a parachute (and an instructor if you’re a beginner) strapped to your back to catch your fall?! On a clear and sunny day, the views are breath taking – an absolute must for any adrenaline junkie! If you’re looking for some Les Gets activities in summer, we’d definitely recommend trying your hand at skydiving.

  • From age 12. Minimum height 1.4 m.

Paragliding

Take to the skies for an adventure that combines tranquillity and pure freedom. Paragliding is an experience that can be enjoyed in many stunning locations around the world, but there's something undeniably special about flying up above the Alps.

Walking & Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing in the Alps is like stepping into a winter fairy tale. It's a gentle way to connect with nature, all while taking in the stunning mountain views. Whether you're an experienced hiker or new to outdoor adventures, it's a magical way to experience the mountains. 'Walking, Cross-country skiing, and Snowshoeing maps' are available from the Tourist Office or you can ask your chalet host for more information. However, to truly immerse yourself in this awe-inspiring natural setting, we recommend joining a guided trek. Your instructor will lead you to their favourite spots far from the hustle and bustle of crowds. You might even see a marmot or ibex if you’re lucky!

Hand-Crafted Pottery

At the workshop, you’ll find a wide variety of decorative and practical creations made on-site by Anouk the potter. Beginner sessions are available on Monday mornings from 10am-12pm. New creations are glazed, fired and returned the following Friday. The shop is open from Monday to Friday from 9am-12pm and from 2pm-6pm.

Mechanical Music Museum

Here you’ll see carillon bells, pendulums and music-boxes, orchestra scores and violins, mechanical and wind pianos, phonographs and gramophones. All displayed throughout the museum in their historical context.

The Perrières Cheese Dairy

The Fruitière is the place where milk is turned into cheese, where the fruit of the milk is collected, hence the word fruitière. Every day, Reblochon, Tomme, butter, yogurts and Abondance are produced. Enjoy a free guided tour to see the cheese being made every Wednesday at 9am.

Brewery Visit

Step into Ireland when you walk through the door to the Irish Pub. During the free brewery visits, Colin will teach you how he makes the only beers brewed in Les Gets! Take this unique chance to taste the Gétoise, Avalanche, Rua and Rua a l’ancienne. All are produced with only water, hops, malts and yeast, there are no chemical products and no preservatives in their beers.

Massage Therapists

At VIP SKI, we understand the importance of relaxation and rejuvenation during your holiday. Mountain Rehab offer a comprehensive mobile massage service that brings qualified therapists directly to your chalet bedroom. Their highly trained masseurs are skilled in providing treatments that alleviate muscle soreness and restore your energy levels so that you can make the most of your precious week’s holiday with us. Appointments can be booked at a time of your choice. In addition to massages, Mountain Rehab also offer facials, body treatments, waxing and manicures. Please ask your Chalet Host for the full range of treatments and prices.

Bowling

The bowling alley in Les Gets provides ten-pin bowling and billiards. We recommend booking in advance.

Cinema

The cinema in Les Gets offers a diverse selection of films presented in both French and English. When you see 'VO,' it stands for 'Version Originale,' indicating the film will be shown in its original language, potentially with French subtitles ('sous titres'). This is a fun way to pick up a few new French phrases. Of course, the practicality of these phrases might vary based on the type of film you choose to watch!
