  • Excellent hospitality and snow, poor visibility!!!

    Alex and I had a very relaxing week in Val Disere. Staying in Juniper Suite, with Kat as our host. VIP are a very friendly company, chalet was lovely, location great. Kat was a great host, her food and cakes were brilliant. Resort is great, highly recommend. Suggestions for improvements, but not a complaint, would be to have ice buckets for the champagne and white wine. VIP need to provide chalets with fire lighters and kindling to get the fire started. This is the second time I've used VIP and will be happy to use them again.

    Although the weather was not the best I have experienced in Meribel in January the chalet staff at Club Pierre were without doubt the best team I have had the pleasure of meeting. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble and the Chef Wayne was outstanding. As a result of the weather being rather changeable the VIP concierge service was very welcome and again the drivers could not have been more helpful. Overal despite the weather a brilliant holiday made so by the VIP staff.

    Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely chalet in a great location and the staff were always pleasant but there were lots of things that they just didn't quite get right. It was day three before the cup of tea arrived in the morning; it was almost a game to see what would be missed off the breakfast table each morning; dinner was always just slightly disappointing - nothing really wrong, just little things e.g. no salt on the table. When you consider there are three staff, it was baffling to understand how they hadn't got it all sorted and in a regular groove. The other thing that I found annoying was the smell of cooking spread throughout the chalet which isn't great - a better extraction fan would be a good investment. I had a good time, but when you pay a premium price, you expect a premium product and it just wasn't quite there. Sorry.

    I return to VIP Chalet Pierre because all my weeks there have been excellent. This year the Chalet staff Liv, Hattie, Sam and Chef Wayne have been the best yet. The service and banter has been second to none and I look forward to returning.

    Hotel Montjola is a different VIP experience, inasmuch as the chalet product has been translated to a hotel setting. It works well. Positives: great (exclusively British) team at the hotel, way beyond the usual 'gappers' who are usually looking after British skiers in the Alps. The food is great and the rooms are a good size. The shuttle service is friendly and reliable (but, frankly, essential). The service is unfailingly thoughtful (from the morning wake up drinks to the instinctive help that the drivers offer when loading and unloading skis. VIP hit a sweet spot of quality and value, which makes them - for me - the best operator in their category. Negatives: rooms on the third floor (particularly, I suspect, 303-306) suffer badly from the noise of the bar, reception area and driveway above. This may be a problem if you are a late riser or early retirer). The hotel may technically be a walkable distance from the lifts, but it's a steep and icy 15 mins plus, which is no fun in ski boots and would be less fun still if you were carrying skis. That location also means that the transfer coach cannot reach the hotel, which makes for a fair amount of waiting around on arrival and departure days, as guests must be shuttled. Overall, I would travel again with VIP without any hesitation. I would be delighted to be looked after by the team who work at and around the Montjola. But I probably wouldn't rush back to the Montjola itself, because I would prefer somewhere slightly better located for the slopes.

    We have coming to Pierre for at least 7 years, whilst we have always been happy with the chalet and the staff, this year Liv, Hattie, Sam and Wayne have been the best ever. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone of them. They made a very good holiday into a truly wonderful one

    We have enjoyed many holidays at "Pierre" over the years which have all been very good. Having said that, this years experience has been to an even higher standard due to the high quality of the staff in the chalet. Excellent food and extremely friendly and efficient hosts.

    VIP staff have gone above and beyond. They are the sort of people you want to be friends with. This was our first time with VIP and by far the best skiing holiday I've been on. The food was awesome, the hotel is perfect. Couldn't ask for more.

    We had a lovely greeting which mad us feel very welcome. However, the welcome speech failed to tell us how to use the hot tub and sauna or TV ( although I understand there is some information on the website, it would be helpful if there was written information available in the chalet. Similarly there needs to be instructions about how to use the safe in our room and how to control the heating in our room. The food provided was very good, but it is not helpful to call us for our dinner, and then we had to wait another half an hour before it was presented, ( which happened on one occasion ) My service from the ski hire company was not good, which ended up in my ski bindings not being altered for my replacement boots, which caused a considerable delay before I could start skiing on Wednesday morning. The staff in the chalet were extremely helpful at all times. On the whole we had a comfortable holiday, and the chalet is in a very good position, but the whole experience did not feel like the top notch accommodation Inwas led to expect from the website
