The UK’s Skiing Bucket List 2025: What Brits Really Want From Their Dream Ski Holiday And What’s Holding Them Back

Skiing has long been a dream holiday for many Brits, but new research has revealed a fascinating divide between those who dream big on the slopes and those who fear taking their first step onto them. VIP SKI’s latest survey of 2,000 UK adults, including 1,000 who have skied in the last three years, unveils two striking trends: the ultimate ski holiday bucket list and the rise of ‘FOBI’ (Fear of Being Involved) in winter sports.

So, what do Brits really want from their dream ski break? And why are so many still hesitant to give it a go?

The Ultimate Ski Bucket List

If money were no object and time was limitless, what would Brits include in their ideal ski holiday? Unsurprisingly, luxury and comfort took top billing, but one unexpected entry in the top five reveals a heart-warming desire to bring non-skiers along for the adventure.

The UK’s Dream Ski Holiday Wish List:

  1. Private post-ski spa facilities (42%)
  2. Luxury 5-star chalets and resorts (34%)
  3. All-inclusive gourmet meals (27%)
  4. Unlimited ski lessons for friends and family (22%)
  5. Unlimited travel and lessons for non-skiers (20%)
It seems that while high-end experiences are still highly desirable, many Brits are prioritising the experience of their fellow travellers, ensuring that everyone, whether a seasoned skier or complete beginner, can enjoy the slopes together. Interestingly, different generations have varying priorities:
  • Gen Z are the most style-conscious, with 23% valuing high-end ski fashion compared to the 12% average.
  • Millennials are keen on après-ski (24%) and even helicopter transfers to resorts (17%).
  • Boomers favour all-inclusive luxury meals (44%) but show little interest in spa facilities (7%).

What’s Holding Brits Back? The Rise of ‘FOBI’ (Fear of Being Involved)

While many dream of a ski break, a surprising number of Brits admit they’ve never hit the slopes due to fear - giving rise to a new trend: ‘FOBI’ (Fear of Being Involved). The study found that more than a quarter of Brits who have never skied would love to try, but their anxieties prevent them from taking the plunge.

What’s Stopping First-Time Skiers?

  • 35% worry about embarrassing themselves by skiing badly.
  • 42% of women experience FOBI anxiety compared to 32% of men.
  • 63% of Millennials and Gen Z feel self-conscious about their lack of expertise.
  • 26% admit they have a phobia of falling off a chairlift.
  • 22% pretend to know more about skiing than they actually do!

Ski culture can also feel intimidating to some, perhaps understandably, as over a quarter of those surveyed (26%) believed Après-Ski was a cocktail!

Why Learning to Ski Has Never Been More Appealing

Encouragingly, the research suggests a growing desire to make skiing a shared and inclusive experience. Today’s holidaymakers are increasingly focused on bringing friends and family along for the adventure, particularly those new to the slopes. Booking lessons as a group, learning together, and enjoying progress at your own pace can make the experience far more enjoyable and less daunting.

As VIP SKI’s Marketing Director, Nici, explains:

“Our survey revealed that Boomers feel the most confident on the slopes, while Millennials often worry about not being good enough. But skiing isn't about perfection, it's about embracing new experiences, stepping out of your comfort zone, and creating unforgettable moments with the people who matter most.
