Three Generations, One Unforgettable Ski Holiday

POSTED:

Three generations skiing

The final week of the season in Avoriaz saw bluebird skies, fresh snowfall - and a very special family reunion on the slopes. Three generations came together for a week filled with firsts, comebacks, and cherished memories, proving it's never too late (or too early) to fall in love with skiing.

At the heart of this story is Brian, 76 years young. Though it had been over a decade since he last clicked into a pair of skis, his dream was simple: to ski alongside his 8-year-old grandson, Neo, and to pass on the joy of the mountains, just as he had done with his own children, some 45 years earlier.

Neo’s father, Martin, 51, hadn’t skied for 25 years himself, but the idea of sharing this experience with both his dad and his son was too good to pass up. And so, three generations returned to the snow together, bound by family, adventure, and a shared love for the mountains.

From nervous starts to parallel turns

Neo began the week in Evolution2’s morning group lessons. We watched him on day one, wobbling determinedly on one ski - grinning from ear to ear. By week's end, he was carving confident parallel turns down Avoriaz's wide blue runs, a natural on the slopes.

The grown-ups had their own triumphs too: rediscovering muscle memory, mastering the first turns, and most importantly, embracing the thrill of being back in the mountains, together.

Four seasons in one week

In true alpine fashion, the weather gave us everything: misty mornings, brilliant sunshine, the odd rain shower, and midweek, a surprise 30cm of fresh snow. It was the kind of varied week that keeps skiers of all ages guessing - and grinning.

The chalet that felt like home

Back at Chalet Kakisa, the experience continued. Our hosts, Archie and Albie, welcomed us like family. They shared in our daily stories with genuine enthusiasm, asking how “the three generations of boys” got on that day, and celebrating each new milestone with us. The chalet felt like home, if only we could’ve packed Archie and Albie in our suitcases.

Inspiration for the next chapter

This wasn’t just a holiday. It was a moment of generational connection, a passing of the torch, and a reminder that skiing is a lifelong love, one that can be reignited at any age. Whether you’re 8 or 76, the mountains have something to offer.

So, will you still be skiing at 76?

Brian would say: why not?
