You won’t have to worry about sacrificing your own time on the slopes teaching your children how to ski. These resorts are equipped with ski schools and fantastic child-care facilities your kiddos will be talking about for years to come. If you want to make sure your next family holiday is a success for everyone from your super-star-skier partner to your three-year-old toddler and their grandpa, check out our list of the best family ski resorts.

Val d'Isere

Located in the Tarentaise Valley in the French region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Val d’Isère provides a charming, natural backdrop where people of all ages will feel the holiday vibes rush over them upon the moment of arrival. It features a great selection of carefully maintained slopes and off-piste skiing options for both beginners and professionals respectively. With a great program of daily changing activities including music festivals, farm visits and mountain hikes, you can be sure every member of the family will find something to enjoy.

For a well-deserved break from the slopes, the Aquasportif centre offers a sunny alternative. There are many family-friendly ski resorts in Europe

La Plagne

Named the world’s most popular ski resort in 2016, La Plagne is amongst the star players of the Tarentaise. La Plagne guarantees thrilling runs for both beginner and intermediates, including a number of nursery slopes where novices can put their skills to the test before they work up the confidence for the real deal. This resort is the perfect place for eager little skiers who can’t wait to hit the nursery slopes every morning, ready to show off their latest moves.

You’ll find several ski schools here, including Oxygene, which offers classes for children of all ages and abilities. If you’re worried you might run out of additional activities, fear not. Go paragliding with your husband, send your pre-teen girls out on husky rides,  and your teen boys toboganning down the mountain while grandpa get his strikes on at the bowling alley!

Alpe d'Huez

Situated in the Central Western French Alps, Alpe d’Huez is one of the most popular destinations for families made up of skiing-enthusiasts of all types, regardless of age or experience level. This ski resort counts as one of the largest in the world and features a great number of green, blue and red slopes, as well as two protected areas for beginners. It is also home to an enormous sports centre with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis, badminton and basketball courts, a bouldering room and even a mini-golf course.

Kids will never want to leave In Vertigo, an indoor parkour/adventure course that doesn’t require harnesses; instead, young explorers are protected by a safety net to free-fall into. This adventure trail is available for kids from 4 years old on. To wind down after all the skiing and adventuring, a delicious family dinner in one of Alpe D’Huez’s many fantastic restaurants should definitely be on the menu.

Lech

Situated in Austria’s Alberg ski region, Lech is set in a high valley with stunning views all around. Home to its own microclimate, Lech prides itself with the most snowfall in Austria, hence you’ll never have to worry about making it to the top of the mountain only to find there aren’t many opportunities for skiing. With seventeen obstacle courses, several snow parks, off-piste routes and fantastic nursery slopes in Oberlech, this resort offers a bit of everything for the entire family to enjoy.

There are plenty of other fantastic family-activities to engage in should you need a break to relax and recharge. Take the kids out to the Engerle-Wald where they can observe wild animals being fed from a safe distance before heading out on a picturesque winter-hike where you’ll find plenty of photo-opportunities that might make it onto this years’ Christmas card!
