Meribel at a glance

  • Traditional village charm
  • Great night life
  • Good resort for non-skiers
  • Transfer from Grenoble 2.5 hours
  • Resort altitude 1450m
  • Skiing altitude 1250 -3230m
  • Pistes 600km

The Trois Vallees embrace one of the most extensive linked ski areas in the world, encompassing Val Thorens, Les Menuires, Meribel, La Tania and Courchevel. The skiable area rises to 3200 metres at the glorious Cime de Carron, and is criss-crossed by a staggering 615 kilometres of piste. Meribel is intermediate heaven, with its wide, flattering motorway runs, and there’s plenty for experts too, with over 30 black runs and the off-piste skiing on Mont Vallon, rated as some of the best in the Alps. Meribel offers great shopping, an ice rink, a swimming pool and many other Olympic-standard sports facilities. From pavement cafes to Michelin-starred restaurants and vibrant night-life, it’s not hard to see why some people visit Meribel and never even ski.

Very few chalets are located on the piste in Meribel and so to maximise your skiing time and preserve your legs for the slopes we operate our own private Merishuttle transfer service to and from the snow. Your driver will come to your chalet every morning at a pre-set time and then drive you the few minutes and few hundred yards to the main Chaudannes lift station. You can then call us to collect you from the piste and return you to your chalet as late as 7pm, plenty of time for some ski stories and banter over an apres-ski drink at Rondpoint du Pistes.

Meribel offers a variety of activities for both the non-skier and those wanting some alternative entertainment after a day on the mountain. Our resort staff will have further details and would be able to assist you in booking.

Snowmobile/Skidoo

Once the ski runs have closed for the day, try your hand at driving these 500cc two seater motorbikes built specially for the snow. With the rear wheel replaced with a caterpillar track for momentum and the front wheel swapped for a pair of skis for steering – snowmobiles are incredibly quick and  able machines whether snow, ice or even water is put in front of them. Whether you are a beginner or you’ve done it several times before, after some expert instruction and tuition you are soon be out on an open country trail enjoying the buzz and adrenalin rush of being in control of a snow scooter. Through deep powder (when there is some!) and speeding up and down the ski runs in the quiet of a late moon lit evening whilst closely observed by the highly experienced instructors the adrenalin soon gets buzzing!

Husky Sleigh Rides

Get a taste of Alaska on a husky powered sledge whilst taking in the breathtaking mountain scenery. Dog sledding began in Canada and Alaska where, in the far north, people were dependent on their dogs for protection, companionship, hunting, trapping and, most of all, transportation. Sled dogs enabled explorers such as Byrd, Peary and Amundsen to explore the frozen wastelands of two continents. They have helped men in two World Wars and the Canadian Mounties owe much of their fame to their teams of sled dogs.

Ice Karting

Come and check out the ice’s temperature, have a go at learning to drive on ice. With its roots embedded deep within go-karting, Ice karting is the latest craze to hit the ice. Ice karting is a very exciting and thrilling activity, fast and furious, even intense at times with your driving skills being tested to their limits. Through the introduction of studded tyres, Ice karting is a totally new driving experience requiring very different driving skills where technique wins over outright speed, allowing drivers of all ages and experience (as long as they are of a certain height) to compete on level terms. Gentle nudging of the opponents karts is all part of the fun, but excessive use of bumper car tactics will rapidly earn you the infamous black flag forcing you into early retirement. Make a competition out of it or just let each person take their turn to test their driving skills and ability.

Parapenting / Handgliding

Discover the Méribel valley in its three dimensional geometry. For the ultimate exhilaration, soar above the ski runs in another dimension, experience the silence, taste the freedom of flying in perfect safety. Paragliding can be experienced in numerous interesting and beautiful places worldwide but it truly has to be said none more beautiful than the French Alps and the largest ski domain in the world, Les Trois Vallées. You can fly from the top of Saulire, the Col de la Loze or La Vizelle.

Helicopter rides

Helicopters are the most versatile flying machines in existence today. This versatility gives the pilot complete access to three-dimensional space in a way that no airplane can. If you have ever flown in a helicopter you know that its abilities are exhilarating. The flexibility of helicopters means that they can fly almost anywhere. For a truly amazing, thrilling and exhilarating panoramic birds eye view of the mountains choose a sightseeing scenic helicopter tourist flight. The Heli-pad in Méribel is situated next to the car park of the Altiport Hotel and the Altiport runway at an altitude of approximately 1800m – 1900m. Méribel’s helipad is also very close to the Altiport Green ski run for those wanting a quick get away on skis.

Ice Diving

This amazing excursion combines two activities, creating one ultimate experience. Step into your personal helicopter at Méribel Altiport where you begin the breathtaking journey. Take in the stunning mountain views as you fly above the French Alps before arriving in style in Tignes. Waiting your arrival, a 4X4 will escort you from the helicopter for the short car journey to the lake and the Ice Diving centre, where you will take part in this chillingly exciting sporting activity that is usually reserved for the most experienced of divers. You will experience pure escapism beneath the surface of the ice covered lake, marvel at the ice formations and shafts of light penetrating through the frozen surface that create a kaleidoscopic array of colours when day-light is refracted through the ice above.
