Skis in Snow

A 20-degrees drop in temperature and up to half a metre of fresh snow this week has transformed ski conditions across Europe.

The freezing weather – down to -17C in some places – came as a relief to resorts from Söll in Austria to Sodeu in Andorra that had been slowly losing the battle to provide sufficient artificial snow – snow cannons can only operate in sub-zero temperatures.

Over the next few days, snow-starved skiers can enjoy good to superb conditions across most of Europe. The freezing temperatures have meant that the recent bout of precipitation fell as snow on even the lowest slopes in France and Austria.
